Sophomore with a Major in Finance from Kilbourne, IL  (Havana High School).  Joining Sigma Nu changed my outlook on Greek life. The brotherhood I found immediately broke down any negative preconceptions I had before coming to NIU. I was looking for a place where I belonged and where I could surround myself with like‑minded guys who shared my values and ambitions. This fraternity has developed me into someone who leads with character and purpose. The attributes I have gained from the alumni and Nationals Organization has helped me excel in other student organizations across campus. The culture of accountability and encouragement within the house has pushed me to take initiative and grow into roles where I could contribute meaningfully within the chapter.

Junior with a Major in Kinesiology from Downers Grove, IL  (Downers Grove South HS).  I joined Sigma Nu because I wanted to meet new people and get involved after coming to NIU. Since I didn’t know anyone when I started college, I was looking for a place where I could build friendships and feel like I belonged. Before joining, I didn’t know much about fraternities, but after getting to know the brothers of Sigma Nu, I quickly realized it was much more than a social organization. It provided a true sense of brotherhood, support, and opportunities for personal growth. Through Sigma Nu, I’ve built lifelong friendships, become involved across campus, and developed leadership skills by serving in multiple chapter positions. Being a part of Sigma Nu has made my college experience more rewarding and has helped shape the person I am today.

Senior with a Major in Accounting from Frankfort, IL  (Lincoln Way East High School).  I joined Sigma Nu to meet new people and build meaningful friendships, but it has become much more than that. Through Sigma Nu, I have developed as a leader, strengthened my character, and grown both personally and professionally. The fraternity has provided opportunities to get involved across campus, including serving within the Interfraternity Council, where I have expanded my leadership experience and built valuable connections. Sigma Nu has challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, pursue excellence, and become the person I am today. I am grateful for the friendships, experiences, and lessons that continue to shape my future.

I joined Sigma Nu because when I came to college, I did not know anyone and was looking for a way to meet people and get involved on campus. Before coming to NIU, I did not know what fraternities were or what they had to offer. After meeting the members of Sigma Nu, I realized it was more than just a social organization and that it provided a strong sense of brotherhood and support. Joining helped me make friendships, become more involved on campus, and grow as a leader through different positions within the chapter. Sigma Nu has given me a community that has made my college experience much more enjoyable and meaningful.

Senior with a Major in Finance from Naperville, IL  (Neuqua Valley High School). I joined Sigma Nu because I wanted to meet more people on campus and find a group where I truly fit in. After getting to know the brothers, I realized Sigma Nu was the place where I felt the most comfortable and connected. Since joining, I have met many successful alumni who helped me expand my network and learn more about opportunities outside of campus. My involvement grew when I joined the executive board as Recorder in Fall 2024. I later became Vice President for the Spring 2025 through Fall 2025 term, then returned as Recorder for Spring 2026 through Fall 2026. I also joined the Student Government Association as a Senator, which has helped me stay involved and continue growing as a leader on campus.

During my time in Sigma Nu, I served as the Athletic Chairman and currently serve as the Sentinel. I am also involved in the Student Government Senate and am a member of the club baseball team. Joining Sigma Nu has been the best decision I have made. It has helped me build lifelong connections, given me a brotherhood that will last a lifetime, and helped me grow into a better leader.

I joined Theta Eta because I wanted to be part of an organization that would help me develop as a leader, build lasting friendships, and give me opportunities to create positive impacts on campus. To me, Sigma Nu means being surrounded by people who push me to be better while making college an experience I’ll never forget. I was in involved in the Justice and Sustainability Association, but I left because all of their events were at the same times as ours. I’m looking at joining the History Club in the fall instead because it’s ran by a professor I once had.

Sigma Nu has given me a great group of people who see the best In me and push me to be better everyday. "Tim Eichler lived next to me at Stevenson North. He pledged in Fall 1969. Chuck Black and I lived on the same floor, and John White lived a few floors above us at Stevenson. All three of us pledged together in Fall 1970. After being Knighted, I held the office of Recorder in 1971 and Lt. Commander in 1972. I also created an all-inclusive Theta Eta Chapter History photo album, taking photos and stories from previous chapter photo albums and compiling them into one in the winter of 1971. I accompanied Commander Dick Storm to an American Red Cross banquet dinner in Fall 1972 to receive a plaque recognizing Sigma Nu’s annual Blood Drive Program."

My four years in the house make up a significant chapter of my life.
