Since our first annual Commander’s Dinner in 2020, Theta Eta has proudly recognized its outgoing and incoming Eminent Commanders while celebrating the achievements of undergraduate members and distinguished alumni who continue to serve our great fraternity. The Commander’s Dinner highlights our chapter’s strong leadership culture, honors lasting brotherhood, and serves as an annual reunion open to all alumni, attracting men from across the country to gather, reconnect, and celebrate the enduring legacy of Theta Eta.

CHILDREN’S LEARNING CENTER FUNDRAISER
SPELLING BEE FOR LOCAL CHILDREN
Sigma Nu’s Theta Eta Chapter at NIU hosted its first annual Sigma Nu Spelling Bee philanthropy event in collaboration with the Children’s Learning Center of DeKalb. Thanks to the support of participants, donors, and students cheering on the contestants, the chapter raised $1,200 to benefit children from low-income families in the community. The event combined friendly competition, campus involvement, and meaningful support for local early childhood education.

NIU CARES DAY VOLUNTEERING
SERVING CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY TOGETHER
Sigma Nu’s Snutober Fest brings students together for a seasonal philanthropy event focused on supporting Hope Haven Homeless Shelter in DeKalb. Students are invited to paint pumpkins, enjoy hot chocolate, and spend time with the gentlemen of Sigma Nu while contributing to a meaningful local cause. All profits from the event benefit Hope Haven, helping the chapter support individuals and families facing homelessness in the community.


SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS SUPPORT
STANDING WITH SURVIVORS IN DEKALB
Sigma Nu’s Theta Eta Chapter at NIU attended the annual Take Back the Night event hosted by Safe Passage in DeKalb. The evening brought the community together through a powerful solidarity march, heartfelt discussions, and survivor stories that emphasized support, awareness, and healing. During Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Sigma Nu recognizes the importance of standing with survivors and helping connect students to trusted local resources.

SUPPORTING LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTERS
HELPING ANIMALS THROUGH COMMUNITY PHILANTHROPY
The Theta Eta Chapter of Sigma Nu at NIU proudly supports animal rescue efforts connected to Tails Humane Society, DeKalb’s primary animal shelter. Through involvement in NIU Greek community philanthropy, including the historic IFC Tugs Tournament, Sigma Nu helps raise meaningful funds and awareness for local animals in need. The chapter also supports pet-centered campus events that provide students with stress relief while promoting safe, compassionate animal care.

CLEANING UP GREEK ROW
IFC SERVICE FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Sigma Nu’s Theta Eta Chapter at NIU participates in the IFC Neighborhood Clean Up, a Greek Row service effort focused on improving the fraternity community and surrounding DeKalb neighborhood. A public Sigma Nu post described members spending the morning cleaning Greek Row and thanked the IFC, NIU Police, DeKalb Police, City Manager Bill Nicklas, and local leaders for supporting the event and speaking with students about community partnership and responsibility.

WOMEN’S HEART HEALTH GALA
SUPPORTING ALPHA PHI’S RED DRESS CAUSE
Sigma Nu’s Theta Eta Chapter at NIU proudly supports Alpha Phi’s Red Dress Gala, a philanthropic event dedicated to raising awareness for women’s heart health. By attending and standing with NIU Alpha Phi, the chapter helps amplify an important cause connected to cardiac research and education. The event reflects Greek life’s broader commitment to service, partnership, and campus support for issues that impact women and families everywhere in DeKalb.

CANAPALOOZA FOOD DRIVE
PARTNERING TO FIGHT LOCAL HUNGER
Sigma Nu’s Theta Eta Chapter at NIU has partnered with Sigma Lambda Beta’s Eta Chapter for Canapalooza, an annual canned food drive that brings campus organizations together through service and friendly competition. With Delta Zeta and other groups also participating, the event collects food donations for Hope Haven in DeKalb while offering community service hours and prizes to encourage involvement, generosity, and support for local families in need.

HUSKY FOOD PANTRY FOR HUNGER

Sigma Nu’s Theta Eta Chapter at NIU was proud to volunteer at the Huskie Food Pantry, a campus resource that provides the NIU community with access to food and healthcare products. Located at the Chick Evans Field House, the pantry helps support students and community members facing basic needs challenges. By giving their time, Sigma Nu brothers helped strengthen a valuable service dedicated to care and campus support.

Sigma Nu’s Theta Eta Chapter at NIU attended Take Back the Night, an event dedicated to creating support for survivors of abusive relationships, sexual assault, and other forms of trauma. By standing with those who have experienced harm, the chapter helped reinforce the importance of awareness, compassion, and community support. Sigma Nu is proud to take part in events that encourage healing and remind survivors they are not alone.
