BUILDING TOWARD ROCK CHAPTER AND A STRONGER GREEK ROW
Rock Chapter represents the highest level of collegiate chapter recognition within Sigma Nu. In 2025, only 20 chapters earned Rock Chapter status across a fraternity with 150+ active chapters and colonies nationwide. To earn the distinction, a chapter must sustain ratings from Very Good through Excellence across all ten areas of Sigma Nu’s Pursuit of Excellence Program throughout the biennium.

Theta Eta ranks among the three largest of NIU’s ten IFC chapters, carries a 2.98 cumulative GPA ranking second in IFC, and has produced 13+ years of executive leadership across Student Government Association (SGA), Interfraternity Council (IFC) and Campus Activities Board (CAB). The chapter’s competitive record includes five IFC Tugs championships and three consecutive Huskie Cup titles, while five consecutive Best Fraternity at NIU honors from The Northern Star’s Best of DeKalb awards reflect Theta Eta’s continued visibility and reputation throughout Northern Illinois University.

Rock Chapter recognizes complete chapter performance. Sigma Nu’s Pursuit of Excellence evaluates ten areas spanning leadership, academics, service, member development, alumni engagement, recruitment, operations and accountability. Theta Eta continues to build on national recognition in LEAD, Operational Excellence and Advisory Excellence while developing the systems, leadership and brotherhood needed to sustain high performance year after year. The objective is clear: represent Theta Eta at the highest standard Sigma Nu recognizes.

THE NIU CENTER FOR GREEK LIFE
Northern Illinois University continues to invest in the future of fraternity and sorority life on campus. One of the most significant examples is the planned Center for Greek Life, a new facility designed to give Greek-letter organizations a dedicated place to connect, collaborate, learn, and grow. The proposed center is expected to include approximately 17,000 square feet and will be located near the intersection of West Hillcrest Drive and Blackhawk Road. More than simply a building, the center is being designed as a long-term resource for students, alumni, university staff, and the surrounding community.
It will provide fraternity and sorority members with dedicated space for meetings, events, leadership development, academic support, professional growth, and community engagement—all while creating a stronger sense of connection across NIU’s Greek community.
A GROWING UNIVERSITY
SIGMA NU MAKES HISTORY IN 2019
NIU IS GROWING. In fall 2025, total enrollment rose 4%, including 22% more new freshmen, 11% more transfer students, and a 3 point increase in first-year retention. Enrollment grew in every college, and undergraduate re-enrollment reached a 25 year high. NIU isn’t just recruiting traditional high school graduates, it’s also reaching transfer students, adult learners, and people who weren’t planning to attend college until NIU revealed a path to them.

A CHAMPIONSHIP RETURN
NIU’s $300 million “Forward” campaign includes a $10 million Center for Greek Life across the street from Sigma Nu. The center will support gathering, leadership development, professional growth, and civic engagement. Since 2017, the city of DeKalb has invested more than $5.5 million in Greek Row. Together, these commitments give Sigma Nu alumni confidence to invest in the purchase, modernization, and expansion of our chapter house.

By bringing students, alumni, university programs, and community organizations together in one location, the Center for Greek Life has the potential to become more than a resource for fraternities and sororities. It can also support student success, increase community involvement, encourage collaboration, and contribute to the continued growth of the surrounding neighborhood. For Sigma Nu and the broader NIU Greek community, the center represents an investment in the future... creating more opportunities for leadership, academics, brotherhood and sisterhood, service, professional development, and lifelong alumni engagement.
